MO-TRAYL’s ‘Finding Your Voice’ project wins social impact award
The MO-TRAYL team's storytelling workshop with research participants, 'Finding Your Voice', has won the 2021 Valorization Prize of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) at Maastricht University, a prize that honors research with a notable social impact. Alongside the MO-TRAYL researchers, several young workshop participants and the Ghanaian workshop facilitator Franka Andoh joined the online ceremony to accept award.
Finding Your Voice brough together 11 participants from MO-TRAYL's three European case study countries in the summer of 2019. Together, the workshop produced podcasts, interviews, and an (e-)book in three languages featuring stories by the young participants about their transnational lives and reflections by the researchers and practical information on the workshop.
In awarding the prize on 1 June, the jury said about ‘Finding Your Voice’: “It is clear that considerable thought has gone into the development of this workshop and its associated outputs, which successfully paint a powerful and moving picture of the respondents and researchers alike. … The net result are carefully crafted products which not only give the respondents a voice, but also give the reader a unique perspective on their stories which they would not have enjoyed through traditional channels.”
