PAST EVENT

MO-TRAYL and the Centre for Migration Studies hold a migration & youth workshop at the University of Ghana

The MO-TRAYL project organised a Migration and Youth workshop at the University of Ghana's Centre for Migration Studies on 14-15 June 2023, in collaboration with Maastricht University researcher Dr. Bilisuma Dito and the Centre for Migration Studies at the University of Ghana. The two-day event comprised a training session and a multi-stakeholder panel.

On the first day, this event opened with a training workshop about studying mobility trajectories and academic writing for early career migration researchers at the University of Ghana.

The second day was dedicated to discussing the societal implications of studying youth's migration aspirations for Ghana's development. This session was opened with paper presentations by the MO-TRAYL team, Dr. Bilisuma Dito, and researchers from CMS, and attracted government representatives, NGOs across Ghana and a diverse academic audience. Therefore, the session opened with paper presentations, which shaped the follow-up multi-stakeholder discussion to harness the policy and practice implications of the topical theme for the day. The presentations and discussions highlighted that youth's migration aspirations are not static. Therefore, policies and practical solutions available and yet to be designed must be flexible to accommodate possible dynamism for societal development.

Workshop participants

MO-TRAYL researchers Sarah Anschütz, Gladys Akom Ankobrey, Karlijn Haagsman and Onallia Esther Osei
